“Copper roughness and how roughness related loss is calculated in their Si9000e Field Solvers”

Abstract:

Material selection by designers and fabricators is necessary to achieve the end result, a working board. However, copper roughness is often overlooked when comparing different materials to achieve certain loss budgets. An overview of some of the available methods for calculating additional losses due to Copper Roughness and a demonstration using some of these methods will be covered. Additional consideration will be given to addressing the purpose and quality of the information that is being shared between various industry groups, because at the end of the day, modeling predictions are only as good as the numbers put in it!

Speaker Biography:

Geoffrey works at Polar instruments, Inc overseeing training and sales. He utilizes his background in engineering and business to make technical issues approachable and solvable. An engaging speaker, he has jumped into the PCB industry with enthusiasm to bring insight into the challenges designers and fabricators share with signal integrity. Outside of Polar Geoffrey has spent time in China managing programs at two different top universities and currently resides in Beaverton, Oregon.
