“Achieving Cleanliness for High Reliability Boards”

Abstract:

This presentation provides a longitudinal view of board cleanliness issues. These problems are not new and in fact have plagued the industry for decades. Given increased needs for signal fidelity, tighter spacings, more active flux formulations, and a proliferating supply chain, this means process residues must be fully removed or, if left in place, rendered benign. Join us for a perspective of the past, present, and future of these issues.

 

Speaker Biography:

Dock Brown brings his more than 30 years of electronics reliability experience to clients of DfR Solutions.
He won best paper award at the 2018 Pan Pacific Microelectronics conference and is currently co-chair
of the IPC DfX Committee. Prior to joining DfR Solutions, he spent 20 years at2018 Medtronic where he
most recently concentrated on the transition to RoHS materials and processes of harsh environment
Class III medical devices. Earlier in his career, Mr. Brown also worked in technology management
positions at Sundstrand Data Control where he led the implementation of the Boeing AQS program and
at Olin Aerospace as a program manager and engineering manager.
As a volunteer, he has been involved with ASQ, IEEE, IPC, and SMTA. He has taught DfX, tin whiskers,
statistics, design of experiments, and has contributed to standards development.
